Get out your chamois cream and your extra large hydration pack, cuz it’s time once again for the annual Epic MTB Tour!
(formerly known as the Tour of KW. Also know by some as the most fun they’ve all season, and by others as that grueling, epic mountain bike ride from hell!)
The Epic MTB Tour will introduce you to wide variety of off-road trails in The area during a 70+ km ride which makes a large loop around KW, hitting some popular riding spots like the Huron Natural Area, Homer Watson, Chicopee and the Grand Valley Trail, along with a number of lesser known gems. Whether you are training for a major event or just want to test your fitness, the Epic is a great challenge.
We will offer a number of enhancements to the Tour this year, including:
- two rider groups, advanced and intermediate. For racers and just general speed demons, the advanced group is your spot. If you are just looking for the challenge of a long ride at a more moderate pace, then the intermediate group is the one for you.
- ride support. We plan to have a sag wagon out on the roads to provide support to riders that might want some extra food/water, help with a mechanical or maybe even a lift ( we won’t tell!)
- sponsor support. Our wonderful sponsors will be there at the end of the ride giving away free bikes and trips to exotic locations. Did that get your attention? good, but we were just kidding. They have been kind enough to offer well-deserved food and drink at the end of the Tour
- trail maps with pre-designated meet-up locations. Riders traveling at different paces then the main groups will have a better resources to find their way and re-connect with the main group at the meet-up locations.
The majority of the riding is on trails (single track and community), though some road riding is required to connect locations. This year’s route may change depending on weather and trail conditions.
Hardy souls can easily turn this into a 100km adventure by adding some distance in the WCC trails. This is a friendly ride, with occasional rest and fuel stops as required, but it is a substantial undertaking
(last year’s ride was just over five hours long).
Be ready to start at 9:00 am meeting in the Glagow lot.
