So…You Want To Try Cyclocross Racing?

Coming up October 29th is Mad ‘Cross, at Pittock Conservation Area in Woodstock.  This is one of the few cyclocross races where a one-day licensed is allowed.  We’re encouraging everyone in the club with an interest in cyclocross to come out Saturday to give it a shot.  Registration is very reasonable:

19+ Riders = $25
18 and under riders = $15
Kids under 15: $10

Day of registration fee is an additional $10 for each category.

Online pre-registration closes on Thursday October 27th at Midnight.

If you don’t have a UCI racing license or Citizen permit, it’s an additional $8 for under 19, or $12 for adults.  Registration is through CCN:!/events/mad-cross-citizen-16

You can also view the tech guide, to see race start times and location.  For most new racers, the beginner race will be the best choice.  If you’re a strong road or mountain bike rider already, the advanced race is also an option.  Note, that a cyclocross bike is NOT mandatory.  A mountain bike (with bar ends removed) or a hybrid are good choices. Even an “endurance” road bike with wider tires will work fine.

Preview the course!

If you’ve never raced ‘cross, or perhaps only raced at Kelso, or just tried the Thursday night or Saturday morning practices, this is an excellent next step.  We’re going to have the WCC tent on-site all day, with tools, cowbells, handups, and other club members cheering on.

For the experienced racers, Saturday is a great opportunity to pre-ride the course, as it’s the same layout as the O-Cup race on the next day.  Also, they’re giving out “best costume” prizes, so keep your Kelso costume ready and come out Saturday in costume.  If fact the organizers have also promised: “racers in costume will be getting an advantage on the start line, so prepare yourself accordingly!”
